HRSP Extension Report: What Ottawa Heat-Pump Customers Should Know

Update: November 2, 2026

An extension report is circulating about Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP). For Ottawa homeowners planning a heat pump, the important distinction is between a reported program extension and a confirmed deadline for your particular rebate stream.

What has been reported?

In an October 27 article, Great Northern Insulation (GNI) says Enbridge Gas informed participating contractors that the program deadline was extended to March 31, 2027. GNI discusses insulation, including the standalone attic-insulation pathway.

We have not independently confirmed that reported extension, and we are not presenting March 31, 2027 as a confirmed heat-pump-stream deadline. Taylor has contacted HRSP directly to ask for an update. We do not yet have confirmation of that date to share.

What do the public program documents say?

The official HRSP terms and conditions page links to separate documents for each stream. In the public PDFs checked on November 2:

  • The attic-insulation terms still state a November 30, 2026 completion deadline.
  • The assessment-stream terms still require the follow-up assessment within 180 days of the initial assessment or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first. It must be scheduled and entered in the program tracking system by November 30, 2026.

Those published dates belong to those specific streams. They are not evidence of a March 31 heat-pump deadline, and the difference between the report and public documents does not establish that HRSP has closed.

What should Ottawa heat-pump customers do?

Do not delay a project or assume eligibility based on the extension report alone. Confirm the requirements and timing for your own file with the program and your participating contractor.

The official heat-pump process still requires pre-installation approval. Obtain written approval before installation. Your contractor must also complete the post-installation application; an installation or quotation alone is not a rebate guarantee.

This update does not announce a change to rebate amounts. See our HRSP guide and current Ottawa HVAC rebates for project-planning information. We will update this article when we have confirmed information to share.
