Bedrooms and upper floors
Lowering the central thermostat can leave the main floor cold while upstairs stays warm. A ductless unit can give a bedroom or upper living area its own cooling. In a storey-and-a-half home, we also look at sloped ceilings, insulation and afternoon sun to understand the heat buildup.
Homes without central ducts
Radiators and baseboards provide heat, but they don’t distribute summer cooling. Mini splits add air conditioning without a new network of ducts. They’re useful in established neighbourhoods such as the Glebe, Centretown and Sandy Hill, where preserving finished rooms is often a priority.
Additions, sunrooms and offices

Ready to put the window unit away?
A permanent mini split keeps the window available and moves the compressor outdoors. It also avoids setting up an exhaust hose each summer. There is still an indoor unit and installation work to plan, including refrigerant piping, power and a drain.

One indoor unit or several?
A single zone for one cooling problem
One indoor unit connected to one outdoor unit is a straightforward option for a bedroom, office or open living area. Its placement needs to allow air to reach the occupied space. We also look at how gently it can cool when the room needs only a small amount of air conditioning. We’ll discuss the available controls, including whether a handheld remote or compatible wall control would be more convenient.
Several zones for different rooms
A multi-zone system connects several compatible indoor units to one outdoor unit. Each room can have its own temperature setting, but the units share the outdoor system’s capacity. We check the proposed combination against the rooms’ cooling needs, including times when several spaces are warm together.
Bedroom doors change the plan
An indoor unit in a hallway may cool the hallway well while leaving closed bedrooms uncomfortable. We plan for the doors, furniture and routines in your home. Separate single-zone systems can also be worth comparing when rooms are far apart or have very different cooling demands. Outdoor space, piping distance and service access can influence that choice.

A quote for one easily accessible room will look different from a project with indoor units on several floors. Equipment is part of the price; electrical work, piping routes, drainage, access and the number of indoor units also matter.
We provide a written quote identifying the recommended models and installation work. For an older system, we check which components need replacing and whether existing connections can be reused.
Many of the systems we install also provide heat. If you want winter performance as well as cooling, we’ll compare appropriate ductless heating options and explain any backup heating needs.
Ask about financing if you would prefer to spread out the purchase cost. Financing is subject to approval and the selected plan’s terms.

Is a mini split the same as a ductless air conditioner?
In everyday use, the terms usually refer to the same style of system: an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units without air ducts. A ductless heat pump uses that arrangement to provide heating as well as cooling. We confirm the capabilities of the model quoted for your home.
Do you install and service mini splits near me?

Will a mini split cool my entire upstairs?
It depends on the floor plan and the path air can take between rooms. An open loft is different from separate bedrooms with closed doors. We assess each room you want cooled and recommend indoor-unit locations to suit it, rather than assuming one unit will cover the whole floor.
Can a mini split cool a garage or workshop?
An insulated garage or workshop can be a good candidate. We review door use, air leakage, electrical capacity and cooling demand before recommending equipment. Garage suitability and rebate eligibility are separate questions; we confirm both for the proposed project.
Does a ductless unit bring fresh air into the house?
Most standard ductless indoor units recirculate room air. They cool and filter that air but do not replace a dedicated fresh-air ventilation system. If stale air or ventilation is also a concern, let us know so we can assess it separately from the cooling requirement.
Will a mini split replace my dehumidifier?
It removes moisture while cooling, but it may not cover every humidity problem. A cool basement can still be damp when there is little demand for air conditioning. We consider the temperature, moisture source and operating conditions before recommending that you remove an existing dehumidifier.
What should I do if water is dripping from the indoor unit?
Turn the affected unit off and arrange service to help prevent water damage. Drain blockages, pump problems, airflow issues and coil icing can all require different repairs. Tell us where the water appears and whether you noticed weak cooling or an error code beforehand.
Can I replace only one indoor unit on an older system?
Sometimes, but a new indoor unit must be approved to work with the existing outdoor equipment and controls. We need the model details before confirming a replacement. If a compatible unit is unavailable, we’ll explain the alternatives and whether a more complete replacement makes sense.
Can I get a rebate if my main goal is air conditioning?
Possibly, if the project installs a qualifying cold-climate heat pump and meets the heating and eligibility requirements of the current program. Cooling-only equipment does not qualify for a heat pump rebate. AirZone reviews the proposed system and application timing with you before eligible work is scheduled.
