Heat Pump Installation Costs in Ottawa: Pricing, Rebates and What to Budget

Updated October 20, 2026. Rebate status and budgeting guidance have been reviewed. The price ranges below were published in 2025 and are historical references, not current quotes.

What should you budget for a heat pump installation in Ottawa? The answer depends on the equipment, the heating and cooling needs of your home, the installation work and any rebates you qualify for. This guide explains those cost drivers, separates available incentives from announced programs, and shows what to confirm in an itemized quote. A heat pump can provide heating and cooling, but lower utility bills are not guaranteed.

Heat Pump Rebates: Available Now vs. Announced for 2027

Available now, subject to eligibility: Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings program has a heat-pump rebate stream. The older Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed.

For purchased qualifying cold-climate air-source heat pumps, the published rebate is $500 per ton, up to $2,000, for eligible Enbridge natural-gas-heated homes. Eligible homes primarily heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood can receive $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500. Amounts depend on eligible rated heating capacity and program requirements; rental equipment has different limits.

Use a participating contractor and obtain pre-installation approval before work begins. A home energy assessment is not required for this heat-pump stream. Read the official heat-pump requirements before committing to equipment. For full program details and the latest status, see our current HVAC rebates page.

Announced for 2027, not open for applications: The federal National Heat Pump Rebate is separate from Ontario’s current program. The October 16 federal announcement confirms a 2027 launch, with up to $10,000 for eligible low- to median-income households and $2,000 for other eligible households. An exact opening date has not been confirmed. Approval will be required before purchasing or installing eligible equipment. Do not deduct this announced rebate from a purchase budget as though it is available today or assume it can be combined with another incentive. Read what is confirmed so far.

Heat Pump Installation Cost Ranges Published in 2025

This guide originally listed heat pump installation costs of $3,500 to $16,000 in 2025. For a current estimate, request an itemized quote confirming equipment, installation, electrical work, taxes and any exclusions.

  • Ductless mini split systems: $3,500 – $12,000
  • Central heat pumps: $6,000 – $16,000

Eligible rebates may reduce your net project cost. Financing spreads payments over time and may add borrowing costs. Confirm both separately when reviewing your quote.

Factors That Affect Heat Pump Pricing

A current quote should reflect your home and the complete installation scope, rather than relying on a generic price range:

  • System type – Ductless vs. central heat pumps
  • Number of zones – Single vs. multi-zone ductless systems
  • Home heating and cooling needs – Sizing should account for heat loss, insulation, windows and layout, not floor area alone.
  • Equipment performance – Compare cold-weather capacity, efficiency, controls and backup-heat requirements. Operating costs depend on your existing fuel, utility rates, system sizing and use; a higher-priced system does not guarantee greater savings.
  • Electrical work – Circuit, wiring or panel work may be needed, but a panel upgrade is not automatic. Have the available electrical capacity and the proposed equipment assessed before budgeting for it.

Historical 2025 Price Ranges by System Type

These historical ranges are not verified 2026 prices. They do not establish what is included in a current installation or what rebates you will receive. Ask for a current, itemized quote before making a decision.

What Should Your Heat Pump Quote Include?

Compare quotes on the same scope, not just the advertised equipment price. Ask for the following in writing:

  • Exact indoor and outdoor models, capacity, controls and any backup heating equipment.
  • Labour, ductwork or refrigerant-line work, mounting, electrical work and removal of old equipment.
  • Taxes, permits where required, exclusions and any work priced separately.
  • Equipment and labour warranty terms, startup checks and maintenance requirements.
  • The amount payable before rebates, which incentives are approved, who applies and when any rebate is paid.

Keep the installed price, potential rebate and financing cost separate. A rebate paid after installation does not necessarily reduce the amount due on your invoice.

Financing Options for Heat Pump Installations

Financing can spread the installation cost over time, subject to approval and the lender’s terms. Ask AirZone for a written quote and current financing details, including the interest rate, repayment term, applicable fees and total borrowing cost.
