Why 2025 Is the Perfect Year to Replace Your Aging Air Conditioner

We had the pleasure of meeting so many homeowners at the Ottawa Home + Garden Show this year—and one message came through loud and clear: Ottawa residents are planning ahead when it comes to home comfort. With rising utility costs, equipment price increases, and more extreme summer weather expected, many are asking the same question:

“Is now the right time to replace my air conditioner?”

For many homeowners, the answer is yes—and here’s why.

You’ll Get Ahead of Rising Costs

One of the biggest concerns we heard at the show was the increasing cost of HVAC equipment. Due to ongoing supply chain issues, rising material costs, and international trade tariffs, prices have steadily climbed. And while no one wants to replace their air conditioner before it’s necessary, waiting too long can mean paying even more down the line.

At AirZone, we’re doing everything possible to keep our pricing competitive—including bulk buying strategies and maintaining strong relationships with our suppliers. But the reality is, industry-wide price increases are continuing into 2025.

Important Refrigerant Changes Are Coming

Another reason 2025 is a critical year to consider AC replacement is the transition to new refrigerant standards. Most traditional air conditioners use R-410A, which is being phased out in favor of R-454B—a refrigerant with a lower global warming potential.

New regulations are pushing manufacturers to begin producing equipment that uses R-454B, and as this transition ramps up, homeowners may face limited availability and higher prices on systems using the older refrigerant. If your current AC is aging and uses R-410A, now is the time to act before service parts and replacement units become more expensive or harder to source.

Choosing to replace your AC in 2025 allows you to get ahead of this industry shift and ensures your system is built with future standards in mind.

Rebates & Promotions Are at a Peak

There’s good news: Ottawa homeowners have access to some of the best HVAC rebates we’ve ever seen. Between federal energy efficiency incentives, manufacturer deals, and AirZone’s own promotions, our customers are often shocked at how much they can save.

By upgrading now, you can take full advantage of rebates and financing programs before they change or expire. It’s the best way to get premium equipment at a price that fits your budget.

Don’t Get Caught in the Summer Rush

Each year we see a spike in emergency calls as Ottawa’s summer heat kicks in. Unfortunately, when the first heat wave hits, wait times for replacement installations go up fast—sometimes weeks out. Planning ahead ensures you’re not left scrambling with a failed unit in peak season.

By replacing your aging air conditioner in the spring, you’ll beat the rush and have peace of mind all summer long.

Older Systems Are Less Efficient (and Cost More to Run)

Even if your AC is technically still working, older units—especially those 10+ years old—tend to be much less efficient. SEER ratings (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) have improved significantly, and newer models can cut your energy use by 20–40% compared to units from a decade ago.

We offer systems from leading brands like Rheem, Lennox, and Bosch, so you can choose the perfect unit for your home size, energy goals, and budget.
