Ottawa's UV Lighting Experts

Indoor air quality in your home is an extremely important component of a home comfort system.

A well-sealed home needs effective ventilation to manage pollutants generated indoors. Moisture control, suitable filtration and regular HVAC maintenance also matter. UV equipment can supplement those measures when it is selected for a specific application.

At AirZone, we work with the leading air quality manufacturers such as Sanuvox to bring you the latest in UV purification systems at an affordable price!

Furnace and Air Conditioner UV Lighting

UV-C light can inactivate some biological contaminants when they receive a sufficient dose. A coil-treatment system targets illuminated HVAC surfaces, while an in-duct air-treatment system must be designed for the airflow and exposure time. UV does not capture airborne particles and is not a substitute for filtration, ventilation or correcting moisture problems. UV treatment does not guarantee relief from allergy symptoms.

Biological contaminants can include bacteria, mould and viruses. Smoke particles and pet odours are different types of pollutants; they are not microorganisms. Their control may require source removal, ventilation, particle filtration or suitable gas-phase filtration, depending on the pollutant.

Our team of experts will help recommend the right solution to help improve your indoor air quality!

UV Lighting FAQ

A correctly selected coil-treatment system can help limit microbial growth on the surfaces it illuminates. That can support cleaner equipment, but it does not guarantee a longer HVAC lifespan or replace cleaning, filter changes and routine maintenance.

Yes. While most UV light installations are traditionally placed in central duct systems, there are specially designed UV kits for ductless mini-splits. These kits target the indoor coil and surrounding surfaces to help curb mold, bacteria, and other microbes. Consult an HVAC professional to ensure you choose a UV system that’s compatible with your specific ductless model and correctly installed for maximum effectiveness.

Some UV lamps can produce ozone, which can irritate the lungs. Ozone output depends on the lamp and system design; a UV product should not be assumed to be ozone-free. AirZone can review the selected model’s manufacturer specifications and safety information before installation. Follow the product’s installation and maintenance instructions.

Our UV lighting solutions are designed to be installed in both new and existing furnaces. Although there are certain applications where installation is not possible, we rarely come across these in Ottawa homes.

HVAC UV systems must be selected, enclosed, installed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Direct UV-C exposure can injure eyes and skin, and some lamp technologies can produce ozone. A qualified installer should check the product’s safety requirements and prevent occupant exposure. Never look directly at an operating UV-C lamp or expose skin to it.

UV-C light is well-known for its germicidal properties and can help inactivate certain viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens by breaking down their DNA or RNA. While a UV system can be an excellent addition to your home’s overall indoor air quality strategy, keep in mind that it’s most effective when combined with other measures like high-efficiency filters, proper ventilation, and routine HVAC maintenance.

Yes. UV systems require maintenance, and lamp-replacement intervals vary by model and operating conditions. Follow the selected model’s manufacturer instructions and service indicators. An HVAC professional can review its maintenance and replacement requirements.
