October 8, 2026 status update: This article is an October 2025 snapshot. Its program-status table and deadlines are historical. Use our current HVAC rebate guide before starting a new project. The National Heat Pump Rebate announced October 8, 2026 is a separate upcoming program and is not open for applications. More details are coming.
There have been quite a few shifts this year in the HVAC industry. Specifically, these changes have been driven mostly by the Canadian Federal Government with heat pump and other HVAC rebates becoming one of the major programs to experience significant change.
The End of the Greener Homes Grant & Loan Programs
For the past few years, the Canada Greener Homes Initiative has helped thousands of Ottawa homeowners upgrade their heating and cooling systems. It included both a Grant and an interest-free Loan to encourage greener homes.
The following summarizes the October 2025 position, with the deadline distinctions clarified:
- The Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants.
- Ontario Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) participants had to complete their post-retrofit energy assessment by December 1, 2025.
- Ontario HER+ documents were due by December 31, 2025. The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant also had a final document deadline of December 31, 2025.
- New applications for the Greener Homes Loan closed after October 1, 2025; approved borrowers follow their loan terms. The Grant’s document deadline did not apply to every Loan file.
If you haven’t yet started your application, the Grant is unfortunately closed — but there are new programs replacing it that continue to reward homeowners for going green.

The New Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP)
The Home Renovation Savings Program is Ontario’s new path forward for energy rebates in 2025. It’s simpler, faster, and more flexible than previous programs.
How It Works
- Rebates of up to 30% of the total project cost.
- Available for single upgrades (like a heat pump or insulation) or bundled improvements.
- Requirements depend on the stream. Space-heating heat-pump rebates do not require a home energy assessment, but written pre-installation approval is mandatory. Bundled assessment-stream upgrades require initial and final assessments and at least two qualifying upgrades. A separate standalone attic-insulation stream is available without a home energy assessment. See our HRSP guide for the stream-specific requirements.
- Delivered through local partners such as Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy.
This new program is designed to make upgrades like heat pumps, insulation, air sealing, smart thermostats, and high-efficiency HVAC systems more affordable for homeowners.
At AirZone HVAC Services, we’ve already helped hundreds of Ottawa residents access these new rebates while designing efficient systems tailored to their homes.
Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA)
For homes still heating with oil, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program remains one of the best incentives available in Ottawa.
Program Highlights
- Provides up to $10,000 to $15,000 to switch from oil to a qualifying cold-climate heat pump.
- No energy audit is required.
- Grants are typically paid upfront or early in the process.
- Available to lower- and middle-income households.
Many Ottawa homeowners in rural communities such as Greely, Cumberland, Manotick, and Dunrobin have already made the switch, eliminating oil costs while gaining year-round comfort and efficiency.
What’s Ending and What’s Still Available
| Program | Status (as of Oct 2025) | Deadline / Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Greener Homes Grant | Closed to new applicants | All paperwork by Dec 31, 2025 |
| Greener Homes Loan | Closed to new applicants | New applications closed after October 1, 2025; approved borrowers follow their loan terms. |
| Home Renovation Savings Program | Active | Accepting new applicants |
| Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program | Active | Historical status; see current federal and Ontario guidance. |
With the Greener Homes Grant winding down, these other programs have become the main ways to save on high-efficiency heating and cooling in Ottawa.
If you’re planning a heat pump installation or HVAC system replacement, check current program guidance and confirm eligibility and required approvals before purchasing or installing equipment.
