ComfortSpan™ is AirZone’s custom ducted and ductless heat pump system. It combines your central forced-air system with up to four additional ductless zones for personalized heating and cooling in bedrooms, insulated garages, finished basements and other hard-to-comfort spaces.
The central furnace/plenum connection counts as one zone, leaving room for up to four additional ductless zones.

How ComfortSpan works

AirZone combines central air distribution with direct ductless zones, then matches the complete system to the home’s heating load, cooling load and available duct airflow.
Variable outdoor capacity
The outdoor heat pump adjusts output as heating, cooling and individual zone requirements change.
Central comfort path
A compatible indoor component works with the furnace and plenum to serve the main home through existing ducts.
Direct comfort zones
Up to four ductless indoor units can serve selected bedrooms, garages or other spaces independently.
Designed around your existing ductwork
Use additional capacity without forcing it all through the ducts.
In many Ottawa homes, the heating requirement supports a larger heat pump than the existing ductwork can comfortably carry as a central-only system.
ComfortSpan™ keeps the central side matched to the available airflow and assigns additional capacity to real ductless comfort zones. The result is a larger complete system only when the home’s calculated load and selected zone design support it.

What Ottawa homeowners should know.
How many zones can a ComfortSpan™ system include?
ComfortSpan™ can include up to five total indoor zones when the home and selected components support them. The furnace/plenum attachment counts as the central zone, leaving the possibility of up to four additional ductless zones.
Can ComfortSpan™ provide separate bedroom heating and cooling?
Yes. A bedroom can be designed as an independent ductless zone, allowing the homeowner to adjust that room without changing the temperature throughout the entire house. This can be especially useful for primary bedrooms and upper-floor bedrooms.
Can ComfortSpan™ heat and cool a garage?
An insulated garage or workshop can often become one of the direct ductless zones. Its own indoor unit can condition the space without extending the home’s central ducts into the garage. Suitability depends on insulation, air sealing, the calculated load, electrical capacity, line-set routing and equipment placement.
Is ComfortSpan™ simply a larger central heat pump?
No. The central side remains matched to the ductwork’s available airflow. Additional capacity is assigned to separate ductless zones that serve real heating and cooling needs elsewhere in the home.
Does the furnace still heat the home?
It can, depending on the approved configuration and existing heating fuel. In many natural gas or propane applications, the furnace remains available for backup or supplemental heat and continues supporting central air distribution.
Can ComfortSpan™ use a regular 24-volt thermostat?
Yes. AirZone can design the system around a standard compatible 24-volt thermostat for familiar controls and greater replacement flexibility. A communicating thermostat can also be selected when enhanced equipment coordination and feedback are priorities.
How is the current heat-pump rebate calculated?
The current Home Renovation Savings Program calculates cold-climate air-source heat-pump rebates using the eligible system’s rated heating capacity at 8.3°C (47°F), subject to the rate and maximum for the home’s primary heating fuel and all other program requirements.
Is the rebate guaranteed?
No. Rebates are currently available, but rates, equipment status and program rules can change or end. AirZone verifies the proposed combination and submits the required pre-installation information before eligible work begins.
