Current State of HVAC & Heat Pump Rebates Ottawa (October 2025)

There have been quite a few shifts this year in the HVAC industry. Specifically, these changes have been driven mostly by the Canadian Federal Government with heat pump and other HVAC rebates becoming one of the major programs to experience significant change.

The End of the Greener Homes Grant & Loan Programs

For the past few years, the Canada Greener Homes Initiative has helped thousands of Ottawa homeowners upgrade their heating and cooling systems. It included both a Grant and an interest-free Loan to encourage greener homes.

Here’s the latest update:

  • The Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applicants.
  • Homeowners who already applied must complete their post-retrofit energy audit by December 1, 2025.
  • All paperwork must be submitted before December 31, 2025.
  • The Greener Homes Loan closed October 1st for approved energy-efficiency upgrades such as cold-climate heat pumps, insulation, and window improvements.

If you haven’t yet started your application, the Grant is unfortunately closed — but there are new programs replacing it that continue to reward homeowners for going green.

The New Home Renovation Savings Program (HRSP)

The Home Renovation Savings Program is Ontario’s new path forward for energy rebates in 2025. It’s simpler, faster, and more flexible than previous programs.

How It Works

  • Rebates of up to 30% of the total project cost.
  • Available for single upgrades (like a heat pump or insulation) or bundled improvements.
  • In most cases, no full energy audit is required.
  • Delivered through local partners such as Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy.

This new program is designed to make upgrades like heat pumps, insulation, air sealing, smart thermostats, and high-efficiency HVAC systems more affordable for homeowners.

At AirZone HVAC Services, we’ve already helped hundreds of Ottawa residents access these new rebates while designing efficient systems tailored to their homes.

Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA)

For homes still heating with oil, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program remains one of the best incentives available in Ottawa.

Program Highlights

  • Provides up to $10,000 to $15,000 to switch from oil to a qualifying cold-climate heat pump.
  • No energy audit is required.
  • Grants are typically paid upfront or early in the process.
  • Available to lower- and middle-income households.

Many Ottawa homeowners in rural communities such as Greely, Cumberland, Manotick, and Dunrobin have already made the switch, eliminating oil costs while gaining year-round comfort and efficiency.
